NEW L’Oréal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation Review and Demo

Hi beauties!

Today we’re reviewing a brand new foundation that just hit the drugstores: the L’Oréal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation. This foundation is unlike any at the drugstore because it’s in a cushion compact form. Cushion foundations are extremely popular among Asian beauty brands, and although I personally have never tried them out, I’m excited to see a drugstore version of one in the states!

This retails for $16.99 at Ulta; I’m sure you can find it for cheaper at drugstores like CVS and Walgreens.

  • Fresh, luminous finish for every skin tone
  • Buildable, customizable coverage
The foundation comes in 12 shades – for this review I used W3 or Nude Beige. Here are the swatches of all of the other shades in the line:
(click photo to enlarge)
Packaging wise, I’m a fan. I love the classy rose gold+white look. The product comes in a compact: you get the applicator on top, then when you open the plastic part, you’ll see the actual foundation, which is soaked in a sponge.
The directions say to press the applicator into the product and tap it onto the skin. As you see in the video demo, applying this foundation with a brush ended in a streaky, cakey mess, so I definitely recommend sticking to a “tapping” motion rather than a buffing/rubbing motion.
One layer of this and my skin looked fresh and more even. It didn’t cover up my blemishes completely; it’s definitely a sheer to light coverage but it is buildable. Two layers later, I was sure I would look cakey but I didn’t! My skin tone was noticeably more even and it covered up my redness well, but my blemish was still kind of peaking through. On the third layer I got about a medium coverage. Still didn’t feel cakey; in fact, my skin felt very smooth and the foundation was super lightweight. I loved the luminous finish it gave my skin- very glowy but not oily looking. I think oily skinned people will appreciate that it doesn’t give a “wet” look, but moreso a luminous finish.
I don’t see any mention of SPF in this, nor do I find it having a strong scent (or having a scent at all).
All in all, I’m a huge fan of this product! I’m going to keep testing it out with other products layered on top, different primers, and with a Beauty Blender. I’ll keep you guys posted!
Have you tried this out yet? Let me know in the comments!

REVIEW: TextureTame Hair Products

Hi beauties!

So, you guys know my struggle with frizzy, unmanageable hair. My natural hair has a lot of wave/curl to it, which in turn causes me to have a lion’s mane if I don’t take care of it, and humid weather instantly causes my hair to frizz up. So when I had the opportunity to try out TextureTame, I was so excited!

TextureTame claims to be the first hair treatment that permanently gets rid of frizz without affecting your hair’s natural body- similar to a keratin treatment but the results are permanent and you can do it in the comfort of your own home. Personally I’ve always dabbled at the idea of getting a keratin treatment but never committed to it because I was afraid it would damage my hair.

TextureTame is a 3-step treatment that starts off with Eliminate. I would say this is the most powerful of the 3 products, as you’re only supposed to use it once every 3 months and for 30-35 minutes exactly (depending on your hair type). It doesn’t have the most pleasant smell, I did kind of hold my breath while applying it but once you wash it out you can’t smell anything. It does have a super thick formula – similar to a hair mask, and was fairly easy to rinse out. Eliminate is strips the hair of frizziness without getting rid of your hair’s natural wave or curl. I never wanted to necessarily get rid of my curly hair or smooth it out – I just wanted to get rid of frizz that was caused by weather changes. This product delivers!

The second step is to follow up with Moisture Lock. This is really what my hair needs! My ends are super dry because of all of the heat styling I do. Its formula seals the hair cuticle to basically lock in the moisture that Eliminate creates (hence, its name, Moisture Lock :P). If you have severely frizzy hair this is the product you’re going to want to check out because it makes your hair strong enough to the point where it won’t frizz up due to weather changes.

Lastly, we have Finish. This is the third and final step in TextureTame’s 3-step Frizz-Eliminating System. This protects the hair cuticle from UV damage, preserves hair color, and makes the hair look shiny and smooth. I’ve never colored my hair so I can’t speak to the UV damage part, but I can say that it does make my hair look super sleek without looking flat, which is my dilemma when it comes to styling my hair. YAY!

Here’s a before and after of my hair before using the products and after. My ends definitely look a lot healthier and the overall texture of my hair is less frizzy. I’m curious to see how this will work at my next 3-month mark, but so far so good!

Hi beauties!

Today I’m doing a video on how to save money while shopping, whether it be for makeup or clothing. These are my coupling tips and tricks that have helped me budget my money so I really hope it helps you out too!

1. Find out what brands/companies have recycling programs

Many brands have recycling programs where if you save a certain number of empty containers from their brand, you can redeem them for a free item. Here are some that I use/have found:

  • Back to MAC: 6 empty MAC products will get you a free lipstick. You can do this online here or in store
  • LUSH 5 Pot Program: 5 empty LUSH black pots will get you a free Fresh Face Mask
  • Kiehl’s Recycle and Be Rewarded: For every empty Kiehl’s product you recycle, you’ll receive 1 stamp. Accumulate 10 stamps and you’ll get a free travel collection product of your choice

2. Sign up for sale alerts via Shoptagr

Shoptagr is a money savers DREAM! I added the little Shoptagr button to my toolbar so that whenever I’m browsing online and I find something too expensive, I can click on the Shoptagr button, the item will automatically be added to my Shoptagr wishlist and then I’ll be notified ANY time there’s a price reduction on that item. I create lists for makeup items, beauty products, shoes, clothes- basically anything that I feel I can save some cash on. I even do this on some Forever 21 items because why not?!

-Sign up for Shoptagr here
(PS: tweet me your wish lists so I can see what you’ve been eyeing!)

3. Sign up for the CVS Beauty Club

Personally, I do the majority of my drugstore makeup shopping at CVS because I find their reward system to be the best. For ever $50 you spend on beauty products, you’ll get $5 extra bucks (CVS money) back. You can use this $5 on ANY item in the store, not just on beauty products.

Pay attention to their extra bucks weekly deals – this is how I save the most money. For example, a lot of times there will be a deal where if you buy $15 worth of Maybelline product, you’ll get $5 extra bucks back. So I’ll buy a few Maybelline products that add up to $15, get the receipt printed, and at the end of my receipt I’ll have my $5 extra bucks. I then use that $5 extra bucks on another transaction. I’ve seen this type of deal on makeup, toilet paper, paper towels, home stuff, pain relievers, so don’t be shy to rome around the aisles trying to find the best deal! Even if you don’t need it at that particular moment, buy in bulk for the future.

-Sign up for regular CVS ExtraCare Card here

4. Use a cash back/rebate website

Currently I’m using Ibotta, which is a website that gives you cash back for shopping online. I never online shop without first checking Ibotta to see what rebates/cash back offers they have going on. I’ve seen $5 off $50 at, great deals at Ulta, and more. You basically create an account, click on “Browse Rebates,” type in your store, and see what deals they have. You’ll get cash back within 45 days

If you’re more of an in-store shopper, you can download the app on your phone (it’s free), unlock rebates the store you want, scan your receipt, and you’ll get the rebate within 48 hours.

-Sign up for Ibotta here

5. Research CCO’s around you

Many people don’t know this, but you can buy discounted makeup at CCO’s (CCO stands for Cosmetic Company Outlet). CCO’s sell Estee Lauder brands: MAC, Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown, Origins, and much more. They sell a lot of past limited edition MAC collections as well as permanent products at a discounted rate.

Normally CCO’s are inside big shopping malls or outlet malls. You can easily find out if there’s one near you by Googling “CCO (and your zip code).”

6. Follow your favorite brands on social media

I feel like every time I open up Instagram I see a brand doing a giveaway for their followers. Make a list of your favorite brands/companies and follow them on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. Many brands are starting to do Snapchat giveaways and freebies for their followers so take advantage!

Also, follow popular beauty magazines for freebies

Many magazines do freebies for their readers – I see it all the time as I’m flipping through the magazine. You can also find a bunch of giveaways on their websites. Here are some that I’ve seen:

-Allure Freebies
-Seventeen Magazine Freebies
-GLAMOUR Magazine Freebies

7. Sign up for Sephora and Ulta loyalty programs

If you’re a frequent makeup shopper, definitely sign up for the Sephora and Ulta loyalty programs. Here’s a breakdown of each:

Sephora has 3 tiers of membership, all free to join (it’s not a credit card):

Learn more about Sephora’s reward program here

Ulta’s Ultimate Rewards Program offers 1 point for every $1 spent. If you spend $400+ in 1 year, your dollar will count as 1.25 points. The more points you rack up, the more savings you’ll get. Here’s a breakdown of savings points can get you:

8. ALWAYS Google coupons before online shopping

My favorite coupon sites are:

-Retail Me Not
-Deals Plus
-Coupon Cabin

It’s easier to just Google the name of the store you’re shopping at and then the word “coupons” (example: Forever 21 coupons) rather than searching through each of these sites individually. Whatever available coupons there are at the time, they’ll show up in your Google search.

9. Sign up for newsletters for benefits

Many companies offer 10%, 20%, 25%, or just free shipping if you sign up for their e-mail newsletters.

10. Sign up for Target REDcard

If you’re a frequent Target shopper, you may want to sign up for their REDcard, which gets you 5% off any and every purchase as well as an extended return policy.
